3rd island

the girls that couch surfed with me at the host house of the dude who had his bachelors degree in hospitality management, were from germany. we enjoyed some local brews at the house, we talked about travels, cultures, interests, and the beautiful Hawaii. a little about hawaiian culture, is aloha is hello, good bye and love. Mahalo is thank you. lani is porch/deck. a lot of people use the word "yea" in place of where Iowans would say "ya know". kids and adults call their elders uncle, and you must all was respect the Ina(the land) heard a story of how the park ranger would constantly get packages of lava rock people took from the island because it had brought them very bad luck. one had a note about how this guy took some lava rock and then his family started dying so he just wanted the rocks back where they came from.
brian dropped me off around 9am (Brian's southern accent 9) at the airport. while waiting for my plane that left at 2:44 I went into the airport restaurant. I was hungry but not hungry enough to pay for taxed out cheap food. I was almost hungry enough to ask someone if I could have the large remainder of their plate they were throwing out, but didn't. i found some almonds in my pack so that satisfied me until I could get some spam musubi. I watched the documentary "magic trip" about ken Keesey and the merry pranksters on their bus trip across America. I haven't watched a full movie for a very long time but it was the perfect thing to do while waiting for a plane. one of them men in the movie Richard Alpert "ram dass" will be speaking at the festival I will be going to. of I forgot to put that I talked to a fellow quad cityian that a friend referred to me and they invited me to go work on some farm projects and I'll have a place to camp and food. I also talked to another friend of a friend who lived on maui and that is where I stayed last night. I passed out instantly once I got on my plane to maui. getting off the plane I met some others going to the fest. we waited for the bus, I jumped on and was told my bag was very big by the driver. the kids I met didn't get on due to their luggage. I got off that bus to transfer to another and when trying to get on that bus the driver said, I'm going to tell you now, you can ride but you backpack cant. so I started hiking towards my destination for the night. I realized it was going to be a very long walk and would of been a very short drive so I got a ride from Sean and Kendra, the people i was staying with for the night. they showed me good hospitality and it was nice getting some info on the island. also nice to share some of my stories, reasons and direction of my trip. it nice to share and actually step out of your head and listen to your self as an observer. I really liked getting interviewed by one of my buddies mentors before leaving on my trip as it made me really think about myself and the world. I would like to be interviewed by a professor like that again. it nice to have some connections pre established before landing on he island. more people to hike, camp, surf, dive, fish, farm, and enjoy each others company with. slept very hard last night due to all the walking I imagine. today I'll be heading to the camp ground where the festival is at and get social. I find myself picking up sticks and breaking them, preparing them for fire when walking then realize I'm not going to start a fire then a drop them. haha. I need to start a fire. PEACE
kinda wished I had a real keyboard or laptop so I could type faster and more but I'll do with what I got and I am grateful for.
